Why isn't Juan Encarnacion getting any love?

.287-.349-.447, decent 20-HR power, good speed and a good live arm. Only 29, although he's from the DR, so he might be 50 for all we know. Still, Giles is getting 10 mil a year, and I see no reason why Encarnacion shouldn't get at least 3-5 mil a year. So, why the lack of negotiations?

apparently, the Indians have some interest:

The Indians still haven't ruled out signing a B-level, free-agent outfielder who can swing the bat, a group that includes Reggie Sanders, Preston Wilson and Juan Encarnacion.

Because, until last year, he was one of the worst regular outfielders in baseball.

Well, first of all, Giles has been better in pretty much every year of his career than Encarn was last year, his career year.

He has a career .316 OBP

    He's nothing spectacular on defense.

He's generally an average hitter and in the corner OF that really isn't that good.

His SB rate generally produces, well, no positive effects. 70% success.

I mean, he had a decent year last year, but he isn't worth 3-5 million. He's a good 4th OF, and maybe on a weak team, an acceptable COF. But nothing special.

Juan isn't getting any love because it is early in the game. Teams are going after the big names and looking for big trades. Juan will be signed when all the big ones are gone. And yes he will get 3-5 million.

And that's probably a bad idea.
