    Dodgers Depo Done

    http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2207524

Los Angeles Dodgers owner Frank McCourt fired general manager Paul DePodesta on Saturday.

The team sceduled a 5 p.m. news conference to announce the move, first reported by Los Angeles newspapers and also confirmed by ESPN.

Earlier in the week, Orel Hershiser, one of the key members of the 1988 World Series championship team, became the sixth candidate to interview for the vacant manager's job. In a sign of pending trouble, Hershiser met with McCourt and adviser Tommy Lasorda, but not DePodesta, The Los Angeles Times reported.

McCourt hired DePodesta, then 31, after buying the team in January 2004. The Dodgers won the NL West title in his first season, but DePodesta riled fans by trading popular catcher Paul Lo Duca and two other players at midseason.

DePodesta had three years left on his contract.

Wow, that is a terribly stupid move. DePodesta will make them regret it.

McCourt is jumping the gun here... but hey, if it frees up DePodesta to go kick some ass elsewhere, that's cool.

Now we'll see a pile of ex-Dodgers come in with history and bullshit. Lasorda will get back to shredding good pitchers like he did so many years ago.

Wow, another GM on the market that I would have loved to see Cincy go after... maybe the Reds could send O'Brien their way . Geez I hope the new owners are named soon and they shake down the front office and manager position, so many better options out there than what weve got right now.

They could do worse. They could hire ex-Expos and ex-Orioles to run the team like Fox did when they hired Kevin Malone and Davey Johnson.

And those ex-Dodger coaching staff led your Angels to the title didn't they?

Well put man. I would do anything for this type of change. I could see a complete 180 in our pitching simply with depo at the reigns. Would be awesome, but it is highly unlikely. But the ownership situation should be done by Dec 1st and this is perfect timing to set something like this up. Hopefully all of the candidates are watching this closely.

Not trying to pimp up ex-Dodger coaches (Bill Russell wasn't exactly the greatest manager), but funny how a fan like you overlooked the current coaches on the Angels.

The Angels hired ex-Dodgers because they were good.

The Dodgers will do it because they were ex-Dodgers.

Point taken, but me thinks you were more apathetic than excited when they hired Mike Scioscia. Anyone was better than Terry Collins, but no one thought Mike would lead them to a World Series.
