They cut the lead in half and it's only the fifth inning, save it for later.

Could have tied it had Either known basic baserunning fundamentals.

They all have brain freezes from time to time, I am sure he will get an earful.

See, even the umpire doesn't have his head completely in the game at all times.

I will rant after this game. But that Utley slide. I wish him only the worst things.

Oh come on. If Howie Kendrick gets taken out like that, NY fans (Paradoxx_NYC comes to mind) would argue it's just hard-nosed baseball by the Mets and that LA should toughen up.

Not a chance. He didn't even begin his slide until he was already at second base. He made no attempt at the bag, only to leg whip Tejada. He can go to hell.

I would gladly disown any player of mine who takes a cheap shot at a middle infielder with his back turned.

    Re: 2015 Post Season

A late slide even by MLB rules is not indicative of "intent to go after the baseman", everyone is just emotional because Tejada was injured, which is a shame, a shame when anyone is injured enough to not continue.

Hand at bag ........this is not a case of "no attempt at bag"...."he wasn't even going for the bag" or the one I have heard for the thousandth time tonight....
"he was NO WHERE near the bag".

I can guarantee that every team has had runners go way off the base toward a baseman to break up a double play, most of the time the player is able to avoid contact thus not resulting in an injury and I have rarely seen the runner even glanced at by an umpire for it.

    Re: 2015 Post Season

chase utley still killing the mets.

im unsure whether i wanna call it dirty or not. first, i definitely dont think he was trying to break tejadas leg. second, youre down 2-1 in the 7th, 1-0 in the series, if you just slide in half assed and let them turn 2 there, thats your season. in that sense, its a hard nosed play, utley himself still took a nasty knee off the face to break it up.

that being said, he did slide pretty late. even in tobys picture in the post above, he started his slide a step or two right before that... and in that picture, hes already at 2nd base.

theres no question it was a late slide, theres no question in my mind though, that he has to take tejada out there to keep them out of the double play. its just borderline both ways, i hesitate to call it one or the other. id personally lean, tough and hard nosed... but meh, im not a fan of either team.

I'm not going to act upset about it but Utley was clearly going for Tejada's legs and not the bag.

Oh and it's not "hard nosed baseball".

I get trying to get in the way of the throw. But there's a fine line between cleverly directing your slide so that you get in the way and flat out tackling the player like a linebacker, which is about what Utley did.

Oh hi, here's Daniel Murphy sliding into Jimmy Rollins to break up the double play. But please go ahead and argue it's not the same because Rollins positioned himself correctly so he doesn't have his back turned.
