Baseball Slant Is Edmonds a HOFer?

After reading this Is Jim Edmonds a Hall of Famer? - SweetSpot Blog - ESPN, I got to wondering what some of you thought. I think Edmonds is the best CFer of this generation and he definitely made the best catch I have ever seen. His defense was amazing and his bat was pretty damn good too. It was always fun to see him somehow turn on a high and tight fastball and drive it out into the seats. If you read the article, he has numbers that support his HOF candidacy. I think he is one of the best CFers of all-time so I would have to say yes. What do you think?

I tell you what. If Edmonds goes to the HOF, I hope he invites Bill Stoneman, Gary DiSarcina, Darin Erstad, and Kent Bottenfield to the induction so he can go all Micheal Jordan on them in his speech.

He's fringe for me, but he makes it due to playing CF (and being damn good at it too.) Its a shame for him and his prospects that he didn't eclipse 400 homers, as you know some of the voters are funny about that.

Hall of Very Good, definitely. Hall of Fame? Not sure. Had he hit 400 homers (as was said), his chances would be a whole lot better. He didn't have 2000 hits (2500 would make a fair case), 1200 RBI, or 100 SBs either. Had it not been for a couple of injuries that cost him substantial time on the field, he would have had a much better case.

Edmonds was close enough to 400 HRs and 2,000 hits.

But he eclipsed neither, so, therefore Hall of Good. There's a lot of nice players in the HoG, he has some good company.

Yeah those 7 HRs were really going to push him over the top If only Dale Murphy hit two more HRs!!!

    Re: Is Edmonds a HOFer?

Frankly, I think Murphy has a better HOF case than Edmonds does. 2 MVPs (successive seasons), 5 Gold Gloves (successive seasons) and 4 Silver Sluggers (also successive seasons) were impressive. Edmonds has 8 Gold Gloves, 1 Silver Slugger and no MVPs. Edmonds made 3 All Star teams, while Murphy made 8.
As has been said, however, both are definitely in the Hall of Very Good, and they ahve some excellent company there. Neither player has anything to be ashamed of and both played very, very well throughout their respective careers.

It may also hurt him that many of his big years came with a strong supporting cast in St. Louis, which doesn't diminish his talent but for HoG RBI totals could make them be seen in a smaller light.

Great player, just not hall of fame worthy.
