    ...and the 2010 _______ award(s) goes to.....

The AL Gold Glove winners were announced today, Longo wins his second (pretty sure there's more to come) and Carl Crawford got his first. First thing that came to my mind was... it's about dang time.

    Winners list
    Catcher: Joe Mauer, Twins
    First base: Mark Teixeira, Yankees
    Second base: Robinson Cano, Yankees
    Third base: Evan Longoria, Rays
    Shortstop: Derek Jeter, Yankees
    Outfield: Carl Crawford, Rays
    Outfield: Ichiro Suzuki, Mariners
    Outfield: Franklin Gutierrez, Mariners
    Pitcher: Mark Buehrle, White Sox

Already reading the bloggers crap about how Jeter has only gotton one he deserves, yea, yea, blah blah... blow it out your ass.

I'm surprised Bartlett, Aybar, and Everett are near the bottom, but even so they're on the grading curve compared to Jeter.

I guess the interns that the managers have do this, all looked at fielding % and thats it.

Yeah grading curve is one thing, being here for the last how many years is a totally different thing.

People just love ripping on Yankees whenever you get the chance to don't they.

Here are some things that suggest Jeter was the right choice:
-Jeter had 1/3 of the errors that anyone with as many innings as him had
-Jeter had fewer errors than ANY SHORTSTOP IN THE LEAGUE with more than 400 innings. He had over 1300 innings
-Jeter played in the 4th most innings and the 2nd most games
-Jeter had the 3rd highest fielding percentage of anyone with more than 200 innings and the highest of anyone with over 206 innings
-Jeter turned the 3rd most double plays of anyone in the league

I don't know what these saber stats are pulling from, but to me, they're useless. That tells me all I need to know

Oh yea, and if you're wondering what his error number was, it was 6. 6 freakin errors. I know that's not all of it, but jesus, he gets ripped and made 6 ****ing errors. I think that should count for a lot more than people give it credit for. He might not get to as many balls as some SS's, but he certainly won't hurt the team, and that's a big thing.

I'm sorry but the fact that Jeter got another GG just makes me sick. Every single scouting report has him as one of the worst SS's in the league. Yes he made only six errors which is impressive but when your range is the size of a the batter's box, its not. I'm not much of a saber guy, just going on what I see and scouting reports.

You can't get an error on a ball you never reach.

I didn't know dead cows play shortstop. And I didn't know we gave them gold gloves. Damn, the sport has evolved. Or de-evolved.

Range of a batter's box is generous, no? Perhaps Manny's brain is more reasonable.

Its funny you all say he has such horrible range. He was 7th in the AL in chances (aka balls he got to) and of those 6 above him, 3 had more innings than him. So there goes that argument

I'm sorry, Jeter is not a good SS any way you try and slice. He is adequate but that's about it. Jeter does have terrible range.

Re: ...and the 2010 _______ award(s) goes to.....

That's what Total Zone Rating does. It judges what type of ZONE a player covers. Jeter's zone was miserable this year. He has always had poor range to his left, and this year, he's lost a little bit more. Also, chances don't count balls he reaches and then just puts in his pocket because he knows he can't make...and I saw at least a few of those this year. The fact of the matter is that these SABER stats judge whether a guy has PLUS range or MINUS range, and Jeter's got MINUS range. He is not a gold glove winner. He's also not the terrible SS that some guys make him out to be, but for him to win a GG is wrong.

Have you ever looked at the explaination for Total Zone Rating? It's complete BS! The guy who developed it can't even explain it. There's even ESTIMATION involved! How can you have a SABER stat with estimation? It's a completlely stupid and useless number

I've already said how I know he is terrible.
