Porter, you make a good case. And yes, I would have picked someone else. I'm just trying to say it's really not all that insane. I'm not arguing Jeter has the best range of anyone in the league. He did 6 years ago, but not now. I'm arguing that he's got average range and his lack of errors more than makes up for it.

My thinking is, though, that I'd rather have my SS miss a few to his left or right than get to everything but throw half of them away. One lets the guys get to 1st occasionally more, the other puts them on 2nd.

I'm not quite sure that's a valid argument. We're not talking about one guy who misses A FEW to his sides, and another who gets to more but throws HALF of them away. We're talking about a guy who fails to get to MANY more to his sides, and another who throws like 3-5 more per season away.

Also, if we're talking advantage, let's consider that more than likely Tex saves Jeter errors more than Mitch Moreland does for Andrus or (insert A's 1B) for Pennington. So, again, errors are an awful stat to judge this on.
