    MLB Jermaine Dye to retire?

    per rotoworld:

Jermaine Dye is telling teams that he is willing to play first base, reports Jon Heyman of SI.com.

It's a nice thing to hear since his reputation in the outfield severely damaged his market. Dye remains a nice value in this current climate, but remember that even though he finished with 27 homers and 81 RBI for the White Sox last season, he batted just .179/.293/.297 over his final 212 at-bats during the second half.
    Now I get this tweet:

    Rotoworld_BB

    J. Dye -RF-CWS: Report: Jermaine Dye considering retiring
Surely someone wants this consistent bat. I can't believe there is no room for him. No interest at all? Ridiculous.

It's unbelievable that no one wants him. He is still a very good, consistent bat. Crazy.

Teams are now taking the youth movement too seriously, playing too many young guys when veterans can give them better results at a cheaper price long term (like adding a yr of service time for equal numbers etc...)

It was really unbelievable. He was very good with bat and I think could continue with bat.Teams are now looking for youth because energy level of youths are high than any veteran player. He has always done great job for his team and it happens with all players.

I'm surprised that Dye hasn't at least gotten a nibble. Joe Crede hasn't gotten much interest, either.
Dye may accept a deal like Thome got from the Twins -- 1 year, $1.5MM, pro-rated, of course.

There's a team that could really use.. either guy actually, the Red Sox, with their little depth and experience right now. They keep winning though, but I don't think Dye or Crede would be a chemistry killer. Not with Francona around.

Didn't Dye turn down a reasonable offer from Washington?

    Re: Jermaine Dye to retire?

Dye's problem is that he wanted to get paid big money. He's not willing to take a small deal just to play. Not to mention his range is awful. Though what he can get to he can still catch.

Dye turned down offers from the Cubs, Brewers and Nationals. It still different stop Orlando Hudson from screaming racism as the reason Dye doesn't have a job.

    Re: Jermaine Dye to retire?

Dye has just put himself in a difficult position where he feels his pride is at stake. Saying you are worth a big multi-million and multi-year deal, only to sign for a one year deal making a bit more than the minimum just leaves egg on his face.
