Game of the Week (7-4-05, 1:05 PM): New York Mets at Washington Nationals

This is a quick topic, I might pretty it up later, might not, we'll see.

The Nationals, who are surprisingly leading the NL East with a 50-31 record, will throw out John Patterson. He's 3-2 in 13 starts with a 3.17 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP. He was the star of the Nationals pitching staff in the beginning of the season, but since his injury, he's quietly been compiling a solid season.

The Mets at 40-41 are last in the NL East and 10 games back of Washington for the division lead. The result is surely disappointing considering their additions of all-stars Pedro Martinez and Carlos Beltran. Ishii's had a tough year with a 5.68 ERA with a 1.42 WHIP and some New Yorkers calling for Heilman or Trachsel to take his spot in the rotation. The Mets could surely use a win today and a big series win to try and stop the Nationals momentum at home and get back in the race.

Game on and I hope to see some of you all here.

Then out of fairness to the others you will be Slagathor.

Castilla doubled, then I think it was Spivey who doubled Vinny in.

    1-0 Nats.

Baerga just made a nifty over the shoulder catch to end the 3rd for Patterson, who has allowed just one hit and has struck out 4.

Slow game for a 1-0 affair so far

Patterson is in some trouble. First and second. One out.

Patterson retires three in a row to get out of that jam. Castillo is due up for the Nats. Boring game so far, but this is the type of games that the Nats always end up playing.
