    MLB Realignment?

Buck Showalter has a plan to realign baseball:
Baseball Tonight Clubhouse: Time for Major League Baseball to change the scenery - MLB - ESPN
Under this plan, the league is split into 4 divisions of 7 teams each. The Florida teams are eliminated.
The divisions are named for baseball immortals -- Babe Ruth (Northeast), Roberto Clemente (Midwest), Hank Aaron (Southeast) and Jackie Robinson (West).

It's retarded. The way it is is fine. The only perrenial power division is the AL East and there's really no way to make that better without making distances incredibly annoying for in-division rivals

You can fix the AL East by moving the Red Sox to the NL....but I can't imagine the shockwaves involved from splitting up the Yankees/Red Sox rivalry.

How about trading the Phillies and Blue Jays?

    Re: Realignment?

While we're at it, let's only give playoff spots to the AL East and AL West this year.

If any team or teams need eliminated, it's perennial bums like Pittsburgh and Kansas City. They cannot live off 70's and 80's success anymore.

    Re: Realignment?

Eliminate the Natinals, Royals, Pirates, Royals, Marlins and Blue Jays. That leaves you with 24 teams. Have two leagues, 12 teams each, two divisions and 6 teams per division.

AL East: New York, Boston, Tampa Bay, Baltimore, Detroit, Cleveland.
AL West: Chicago, Minnesota, Texas, Anaheim, Seattle, Oakland.

NL East: New York, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Chicago, Milwaukee.
NL West: San Diego, San Francisco, Los Angeles, St. Louis, Houston, Colorado.

    Re: Realignment?

Why eliminate the Marlins? They've won 2 World Series and are in playoff contention again.

I'd move them to a city that cares more, but the franchise is clearly ran by people who know what they're doing.
