MLB For the love of god, ESPN STOP TALKING ABOUT THE S***

Report: Manny Ramirez, David Ortiz tested positive for PEDs in 2003 - ESPN

Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz were among the 104 major league players listed as having tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs in 2003, lawyers with knowledge of the results told The New York Times.

The two were key members of the Boston Red Sox World Series championship teams in 2004 and 2007.

    The Herd with Colin Cowherd

Steve Phillips and Colin Cowherd react to the New York Times' report that Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs in 2003.

On Thursday in Boston, when Ortiz was asked about the 2003 drug test, he told The Times: "I'm not talking about that anymore," he said. "I have no comment."

Angels center fielder Torii Hunter, a longtime friend of Ortiz's, said he was shocked by the report.

"This hurts, this really hurts," Hunter told ESPN.com's Amy K. Nelson. "I don't know what to think about this. I guess you just never know what people do in the dark.

"I still love him but at the same time it's tough to hear that. I know it's going to be tough on him and tough on his family once this gets out. It's Big Papi, man, it's the Big Dog of Boston and he helped win two World Series with those guys, with the clutch hits. And now all those things are going to be tainted."

Ramirez' agent, Scott Boras, would not comment Thursday, according to The Times.

Ramirez, now with the Los Angeles Dodgers, recently came off a 50-game suspension for violating baseball's drug policy by obtaining a prescription for a banned female fertility drug.

In June, The Times reported Sammy Sosa was on the 2003 list. In February, SI.com reported that Alex Rodriguez was on the list, and subsequently, Rodriguez acknowledged having used banned substances from 2001 to 2003, when he was the Texas Rangers.

Players were tested in 2003 as part of Major League Baseball's survey to determine if it was necessary to impose mandatory random drug testing in 2004. There were no penalties for a positive test in 2003.
I retract the previous argument with the assumption of him not using during the Boston days. But I continue the argument that the list SHOULD be released now. This also subject us to this story getting the Brett Farve treatment all day and WSOP reruns from this year.

You mean the list that was supposed to be sealed and never released by a court order?

It's the biggest sports story of the day. I think ESPN has a right to cover it.
I did a lot of good things as a sim league GM.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

There is a time where you beat it to death. They spend all 24 hours (maybe 18 if you take out the WSOP) on three networks talking about it. It gets really old really fast.

I blame ****ing NY Times for reporting it right now, when their are bigger stories surrounding baseball and 2009, not ****ing shit that happened 6 years ago.

MLB Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz tested positive in 2003

Report: Manny, Papi tested positive for PEDs in 2003 - MLB - CBSSports.com Baseball

NEW YORK -- David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez were among the more than 100 Major League Baseball players who tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs in 2003, according to a report in the New York Times.

he article posted on the newspaper's website Thursday cited lawyers involved in pending litigation over the testing results who spoke anonymously because the information is under seal by a court order.

Ortiz declined comment to the paper. In 2004, he and Ramirez led the Boston Red Sox to their first World Series championship since 1918.
I wish they would just release the entire list.

all I have to say is: I told you so. I told you Manny did it before this season and I told you Ortiz did it as well.

Which thread did that debate take place in again?

I think a bump is in order.

I'm sorry but what evidence do we have besides some reporter says his name is on a list? And his best season was after steroids were banned in baseball so its clear that they were not the reason behind everything.

I've said Ortiz for a while now...since before Manny got caught this year. I believe the recent debate was in one of the threads about Manny (around the time he got busted).

@ CJ someone is in denial.

Wait. Did you just say it's obvious he didn't do it just because he allegedly did it after it was banned?

By that logic, nobody commits murder in this country because murder is illegal.

NY Times also reported Joe Torre was going to get fired in 2006 I believe, but he didn't, so that shows how much credibility they really have.

Manny has always had the numbers before 03 even after 03, so I don't see what the big deal was.

I love how we talk about the one positive test, but not about 100s that they may have passed.
