MLB If you were GM, would you...

...trade for Roy Halladay, given his price? Pretend you are the GM of both these teams. Knowing what you know about the situations and the teams now, would you make the trade?

The stipulations for the poll are as follows:
-Please only vote for one option per team
-Red Sox price: Clay Buchholz, one of either Casey Kelly, Ryan Westmoreland, or Daniel Bard, and Michael Bowden
-Yankees price: Joba Chamberlain, Phil Hughes, and one of either Austin Jackson or Jesus Montero

Well I'm an idiot. I messed up the last option in the poll. Can an admin do me a quick favor and switch "Red Sox" to "Yankees" in the last option? Thanks

I think the Red Sox should absolutely make the trade, since none of the prospects asked for are helping out their major league team right now besides Bard, who isn't making too much of an incredible impact. I'm REALLY on the fence with the Yankees, and have been for the last 2 weeks. But in the end I think you have to do it. Both Hughes and Joba are making an impact on the MLB level, so it might hurt there. But getting Halladay is totally worth it. Giving up Jackson and Montero, two future star bats, would hurt as well, but Halladay again is worth it. It makes them World Series favorites in my opinion. The only thing I'd be concerned about is his age.

The way I see it, the Sox are trading prospects who have not yet proven consistent success at the MLB level (Bard's MR status kinda...doesn't count, lol)

The Yankees, would be giving up a LOT, but Jackson and Montero are totally unproven, and I'd always rather trade a prospect before they make the MLB than after...so barely a yes.

Both should do it, I just think despite getting Halladay, it would be tough for either to lose Bard/Hughes, both having tremendous impacts to the pen and with the way Papelbon is going, Boston could use Bard. And Hughes seems invincible as a MR right now.

I don't know, if either were to get Halladay, they'd be the favorite in my book, even if they parted ways with the setup man.

I'm saying Sox yes, Yankees no. If they could get Hughes pulled out of a deal and go elsewhere with another spect, sure.

I agree it'd be hard to lose Hughes right now. That's what I'm really on the fence about.

Casey Kelly could easily be the first 2 way player in a long time... no way to give up on that talent, westmoreland is our best power spec, and Bard is the CL of the future... Ohh and Buchholz is going to be a solid #2-3, he'd be 2-1 or 3-0 if our bullpen didn't blow up on his starts... Bowden has a ceiling of weak 1 or strong 2... I'm not opposed to Buchholz and Bowden but no way on those 3... give up a Ryan Kalish or Yamaico Navarro... I'm not giving up Buchholz and our #4 spec combined with either (#1, #5 or stud MR like Bard)...

Joba is no more than a 5-6 inning starter, and Hughes is only now performing well...neither one has the upside of a Clay Buchholz

    Didn't he go 8 tonight?

I mean right now hes only averaging 5.4 IP a start. But isn't this his 1st full year starting.

Um...don't you have some dude named Papelbon who's 28? Bard is only 4 years younger. Closer of the future is going to have to wait a long time.

You can resign him, especially if he goes to the Yanks or Sox, I think they have the strongest ability to sign him to an extension

And I don't think Theo agrees with you because he was ready to give up almost all these guys at one point, and the Sox aren't the frontrunners to get him for no reason.

    Joba's last 3 starts' IP: 6.2, 7.0, 8.0. Joba's last 3 starts' ER: 1, 1, 1. Yankees' record in Joba's starts this year: 13-6.

If that's not upside I don't know what is. And Hughes is doing well now, yes. They would have traded him long ago if they didn't still have immense faith in him to have some incredible upside, because he was doing terrible for a while.
