Varitek is a type A? clearly, there is something wrong with that system. no one is going to be willing to give up picks for that guy. well, no one with half a brain.

Re: MLB Free Agent Roulette -2009 Predictions

    He hasn't signed anywhere yet.

The last time he was on the verge of becoming a free agent the talks stalled, he got pissed at everyone, made a scene of clearing out his locker, and was very close to signing with Cleveland who offered him a huge contract.....then he resigned with the Padres for 3 years.

We'll see what happens this time.

Padres weren't slashing payroll at the time either. Hoffman is done in SD and will make more money either In Cleveland or Detroit.

If I was a betting man I'd bet that he's not in San Diego next year as well.

My only point is you don't really know for sure until he signs somewhere officially.

Re: MLB Free Agent Roulette -2009 Predictions

True but after the way the Padres handled it...for a second time..I am sure Hoffman is fed up with Padres ownership. Especially after the way he was treated. Cleveland and Detroit have openings and with the market for closers, Hoffman should be able to make more than the $4 million offer that was pulled.

Im not a Ben Sheets fan, but I wouldnt mind seeing the Pirates ink him. Also want them to sign Abreu. Hinske is good but not for this type of team.
