News Game 2 of the World Series gets killed in the TV ratings.

...it was going up against CSI, Grey's, Survivor, and the Hip Hop Awards on BET, so this was expected. Plus, FOX still has Tim McCarver. You're not going to get good ratings with Tim McCarver.

The Tampa Bay Rays evened the World Series Thursday night, but FOX couldn't catch up to CBS in the ratings.

CBS won the night with a 9.1 rating/14 share. FOX came in second with a 7.2/11 (its numbers will change some after adjusting for live viewing coast-to-coast), beating out ABC's 6.9/11. NBC took fourth at 4.7/7, while The CW earned a 2.3/4.

The Eye also topped the adults 18-49 demographic with a 4.3 rating. ABC and FOX tied for second at 3.5, with NBC not far behind at 3.2. The CW trailed with a 1.5.

"Survivor: Gabon," 7.8/12, gave CBS the lead at 8 p.m. Game 2 of the World Series (along with the pre-game show) scored a 6.5/10 for FOX. "Ugly Betty," 5.7/9, put ABC in third, ahead of "My Name Is Earl" and "Kath & Kim" on NBC. "Smallville" drew a 2.6/4 for The CW.

CBS increased its lead at 9 p.m. thanks to "CSI," the night's top-rated show at 11.4/17. "Grey's Anatomy," 9.5/14, was second for ABC, dropping FOX's World Series coverage to third. "The Office," 4.5/7, and "Saturday Night Live Weekend Update Thursday," 5.1/8, kept NBC in front of The CW and "Supernatural," 2.0/3.

At 10 p.m., the World Series rose to 7.7/13, tying for the lead with CBS' "Eleventh Hour." NBC's "ER," 5.7/9, beat out ABC's "Life on Mars," 5.4/9, for third.

Okay okay, not "killed". How about "soundly beaten"?

Nothing really beats CSI or Grey's to begin with, so it's not surprising. But it did beat Earl and Betty and tied up The Bruckheimer Empire's new show, so it's not so bad.

I must admit I turned away for the Office but only for 30 minutes. The score remained the same.

If you watch Gray's Anatomy you are not a man.

Unfortunately, many people missed a very good game. I do agree that Buck and McCarver are lousy announcers, but they are the guys that Fox has hired for the season. I'd rather see Morgan and Miller, but ESPN gets out bid for these games regularly.

How would you rather have Morgan and Miller? They can barely form tangable sentences together

Miller is one of the best in the business.

I cannot handle McCarver's ramblings and Buck's poor immitation of Jack. Neither is very good and they make the game very difficult to watch.
Joe Morgan and John Miller at least let the game dictate the statments. They do not force their opinions on anyone as Buck and McCarver frequently do.

That's why you either invite your buddies over and watch the game while listening to music or go to the bar and do the same.

I'd rather listen to the game on the radio, but I don't have an ESPN affiliate close to here. The computer is an option, but my speakers are crappy. I guess I either turn the sound off and just watch the game as I did when I played or put up with sub-standard announcers.

Just for the record, my household is one that is counted by Nielsen & Co. Its really kind of neat having that stuff hooked to every TV in the house that we use. They can tell if we switch channels to avoid commercials or watch 10 minutes of a show.

I agree that Joe Buck doesn't do baseball very well. His football is much better IMO. But I just can't stand Miller and Morgan getting stuff wrong half the time, and their voices just annoy me. Plus I think they are awful in general, just my opinion.

That's pretty freakin cool catman, that's gotta be neat. I'd love to do that but i don't watch enough TV to be effective.
