It's a matter of perspective, kinda like saying "next Friday" where some people think that means the upcoming Friday (July 6th) while others would say that means the Firday after next (13th).

I guess in some ass backwards way that I don't understand. The hitters ahead of the #3 hitter would be the #1 and #2 hitters, not the #4 and #5 hitters.

I was Joking about WAR. That's why I said thread settled. You can't calculate it exactly. Like Joey Votto, his current backup is Miguel Cairo... That has to be a 100 war right?

WAR doesn't compare to the actual replacements, so Cairo is irrelevant to the equation (regardless of which one you're using). It measures them against some fictitious "AAAA level" replacement.

Although, that's another reason I think it's an overrated stat.

Basically, you have a stat that nobody can even agree on how to calculate, whose goal is to attribute team stats to individual players, and it compares these players to fictitious players instead of the actual players that would be replacing them.

It just caught on because it allows fans to look up their favorite player's WAR and say "look, he's solely responsible for this many wins!"

We've basically found a way for the average fan to take the overrated "W/L" stat they rate pitchers with and apply it to hitters as well. And, as added gravy, they can pretend to be smart because they're using a "sabermetric" stat.

Runs produced (Runs scored + RBI - home runs).

The thing about WAR, it will only last until there is a new one to take it's spot on the throne.

    Remember VORP?

I want to say one thing which is that you should write elaborately on a post so that people can understand it better. I have a little idea about baseballs therefore I need more elaboration to read it.
