Andro and other performance enhancers aren't illegal by law but are banned by baseball. Obtaining steroids illegally without prescription is what I can agree with. Just like insider trading, it's illegal but gets you ahead in your job. Guys like Ankiel and Byrd who had prescriptions for HGH get treated unfairly. Ankiel had a movie deal in place with Disney before reports came out in September that he used HGH AS A PITCHER!!!

insider trading gets you ahead in your job....because it's an unfair advantage.

That's like arguing that it's ok to trip the guy you're in a race with because, hey, it gives you an advantage.

I think an argument can be made that some of these banned substances should be ok, but I don't think the blanket "they're helping themselves improve in their job" argument works by itself.

"I want to state clearly and without qualification: I did not take steroids, human growth hormone or any other banned substances at any time in my baseball career or, in fact, my entire life," Clemens said in a statement issued by his agent. "Those substances represent a dangerous and destructive shortcut that no athlete should ever take."
    Keep denying it Roger

She made a good point that could explain why they made the decisions they did, but not really one that argues that it's excusable or "ok" in any way.

    At least not IMO

I think she makes a good point as to why we even care.

Don't knock the man for standing up for himself.

After being named in the Mitchell Report, Paul Lo Duca and Kent Mercker have admitted their guilt.

The Official Site of The Washington Nationals: News: Lo Duca responds to Mitchell Report

    The Enquirer - Reds notebook

So far, the only players named who have denied it are Roger Clemens and Gregg Zaun.

Gregg Zaun is a dick and that dude has caused some trouble when playing the A's. Too bad the juice only made him a marginal player.

Zaun's excuse is pretty funny I thought. He says he gave Jason Grimsley a blank cheque for $500 because he "probably" lost a bet on a basketball game (but doesn't remember for sure), and then he thinks that Grimsley "probably" passed the cheque on to Kirk Radomski.

[Zaun] points to what appears to be two different styles of writing on the cheque to support his claim.

Zaun said he might have left the to-section on the cheque blank out of frustration over losing the bet, adding that writing cheques without making them out to someone specifically is something he's done "dozens of times."

"I'm not upset with [Grimsley]. I'm not upset with anybody," he said. "I just want to say it one time. I didn't buy drugs from Luis Perez. I didn't buy drugs from Radomski -- not directly or through Jason Grimsley. I offered up the best explanation I could for the cheque and that's it.

"Now, all I want to do is just get on with the business of playing baseball."
    Hahahaha.
