White Sox Another record close to being broken...

    News Story - Verizon Online

Bobby Jenks hightailed it out of the White Sox clubhouse about as fast as he's been setting down batters lately. The Chicago closer retired the side in the ninth Friday night in the White Sox 5-3 victory over the Seattle Mariners, his 33rd save in 38 chances. He's set down 38 straight batters, tying David Wells' American League record set in 1998 with the New York Yankees.

It's the fourth-longest streak in major league history.

"That's unbelievable," said White Sox starter Javier Vazquez. "That's tough to do, especially in (that) situation."

Jenks did not make himself available to the media afterward because he did not want to discuss the streak, a team spokesman said. He's three batters away from tying the record Jim Barr set for San Francisco in 1972.
This is the first I'm hearing of it. 41 consecutive batters would be approximately a perfect game and a half. That's pretty amazing.

    Jim Barr Statistics - Baseball-Reference.com

Still the ML record holder after 34 years!! On Aug. 23, 1972 he retired the last 21 Pirate batters he faced at "The Stick" in an 8-0 shutout. Six days later he retired the first 20 Cardinal batters he faced in a 3-0 shutout in St. Louis. 41 in a row!!
So Barr did it as a long reliever and a starter. I assume Wells got his 38 in a row as a starter.

He tied the MLB record yesterday.

ESPN - Hot Mariners blank White Sox, continue to lead AL wild card - MLB

Bobby Jenks pitched a perfect ninth for Chicago, breaking David Wells' American League record and tying the major league record of 41 straight batters retired. Jim Barr also set down 41 straight for San Francisco in 1972.

Jenks has refused to talk to the media until the streak is over.

"To do that, it's pretty amazing in itself," White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski said. "I didn't even realize it until a couple of days ago when people started talking about it. For him to go almost 14 innings and not walk a guy, not hit a guy, or not have a guy make an error, or a wild pitch or anything, that is pretty amazing."
For once I agree with AJ...

This is impressive but it is more so for Jenks. He has never had a great ERA and is just a hard throwing SOB. Congrats as Bobby has had to come a long way to be where he is.

Way to go, Jenks! The White Sox is my most disliked team, but I always have liked Jenks. Strange, I know. I think he's a hard worker in this clubhouse, no question about it. It's well deserved!

That's incredible, the Jenks story is just such a wild one in case nobody's heard it. He's overcome a whole lot to get to where he is and the White Sox really found a gem with him.
I did a lot of good things as a sim league GM.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

Jenks hasn't pitched since he tied the record, right? They haven't used him in 4 games.

Joey Gathright singled to lead off the 9th, so Jenks settles for a tie with 41 in a row.

To bad Jenks couldn't have broken the record it would have been really cool to see two major records be broken in one MLB season.
Tennessee Titans. Duke athletics. New York Yankees. Carolina Hurricanes. Portland Trailblazers.

Hey, he gave it a good run.

    Still very, very impressive!!!

I liked the way he rebounded and went on to proceed to retire the next three in order.
