Isn't It Obvious????

I'm not trying to build these guys up as a fantastic trio of pitchers...I'm just trying to get the point across that the dodgers have very good depth.

Going into the 1999 season, Kevin Brown, Chan Ho Park, Darren Dreifort, Carlos Perez, Ismael Valdes, and Dave Mlicki looked on paper like very good depth, too.

There are plenty of question marks with the current starting pitchers, namely the recent arm problems of Schmidt and Wolf, Lowe's inconsistency, Penny's pitching duration, and Billingsley's inexperience.

I don't like to be down on the team, especially before the start of the next season, but maybe if they had won a playoff series since 1988, I'd feel differently about the team's expectations.

Which is exactly you can't say anything is obvious in January. Or in spring training. Or during the season. Or before the playoffs.
