Re: wins/losses (for pitchers)= most overated stat in sports
This thread has more to do with my pet peeve of the weight a lot of people put on the W/L stat and less to do with the Padres. I merely use examples from Padres games a lot because I watch a lot of Padres games. (I know that's hard to believe being a Padres fan and all, but go figure)
But, even despite that, I have made posts regarding non-Padres games/pitchers.

Four years later and we're still on this ****ing thing?
Re: wins/losses (for pitchers)= most overated stat in sports
Yeah, how about a solution?
Re: wins/losses (for pitchers)= most overated stat in sports
We never speak about the W/L record ever again.
Punishment will be termination?
Re: wins/losses (for pitchers)= most overated stat in sports
Heath Bell gives up the go ahead run to the Orioles (of all teams) and comes away with a W.
Re: wins/losses (for pitchers)= most overated stat in sports
Dustin Mosely is now 0-3 with a 1.40 ERA.
Re: wins/losses (for pitchers)= most overated stat in sports
The Yahoo fantasy league that I'm part of, does not have W/L as a pitching stat!

ERA is overrated as fuck, too. None of Mike MacDougal's inherited runners who have scored off him count toward his still miniscule ERA. He must be great!
Re: wins/losses (for pitchers)= most overated stat in sports
I agree ERA is also overrated. Especially for relievers.

I still remember that lopsided trade: Kennedy and Kent Bottenfield for JIM EDMONDS!!! I remember at the time of the trade asking my uncle why, as an Angel fan, he was excited by this trade. He was happy to get an almost 20-game winner (I forget how many wins he had, and am too lazy to look it up), even though he didn’t miss a lot of bats, and he had a high ERA and put lots of runners on base. I thought he was one of the worst 18 or 19 game winners of all time, and the future proved me right. How the Angels could have made this trade was beyond me. it wasn’t like Kennedy projected to be a stud or anything either.
Because...Wins.
And Kennedy brought the all-important "hometown presence".

Throwing fail, fielding fail, baserunning fail. It's like being on a team surrounded by eight Dee Gordons.

I dont think its totally over-rated. How else would we place value on pitchers. Its the most referred to stats for pitchers.
