Russell Martin says Manny Banuelos is "more polished" than Kershaw

Russell Martin suggests Manny Banuelos is “more polished” than Clayton Kershaw | HardballTalk

“He has as good stuff as I’ve seen,” said Russell Martin, who caught Banuelos’ two scoreless innings against the Red Sox on Friday. “I compare it to [Clayton] Kershaw or even more polished than Kershaw, which is pretty good.”
A kid who has yet to face a major league hitter in a regular season game is a more polished pitcher than his counterpart who has already had some success in the major leagues (3.17 career ERA in 83 starts)?

    Sure thing, Russ.

Could he mean that by when Kershaw was at the same point?

Hmm...could that be Martin, who after having been cut by the Dodgers, finally admitted that he was out of shape going into last season (which means he lied about the extra 25 pounds he put on as being muscle) as part of his ensuing "Even though I said I was trying the past two years, I really wasn't — but now that I'm gone, I really am" campaign?

Oh, nevermind..you were referring to me.

Could he have meant just that? Maybe. Then again, if he didn't want to give the wrong impression, then he should have thought better than to take parting shots at his former team in separate instances.

I think mofo needs to stop taking everything so personal. Clearly this was meant as more of a compliment to Banuelos than a knock on Kershaw. If anything, it's a compliment to Kershaw that he was used in the example. Obviously Martin is going to compare Banuelos to someone on the Dodgers, since he's only been on the Dodgers. Definitely not meant as a "parting shot"

I'd love if this is in fact true. Obviously I'm taking it with a grain of salt, but I really really really hope we don't trade him or Betances. I've heard only good things about Banuelos, especially from Keith Law, so I tend to at least think Martin has his head in the right place. We'll find out sooner or later.

I stand by everything else I said about Martin. He decided to take it personally when he came out and said the Dodgers made a mistake in letting him go because guess what? — he didn't really give it his all during the past two years.
