GIANTS 8, ANGELS 4
at Scottsdale, Ariz.
Tuesday, March 6

Angels at the plate: Reggie Willits lined a first-inning double and scored, launching a two-hit afternoon. Los Angeles stole four bases, two on a double-steal by Willits and Curtis Pride.

Giants at the plate: Barry Bonds collected his first two hits of the spring -- a third-inning "infield" single (a one-hop smash fielded in short center by shortstop Erick Aybar) and a sixth-inning double (a drive that left fielder Nick Gorneault dove for but couldn't hold). Switch-hitter Todd Linden singled three times, proving that he could thrive batting right-handed as well as left-handed, and Fred Lewis rapped a two-run single in a four-run fourth.

Angels on the mound: Starter Joe Saunders continued tuning up for a likely spot in the rotation by allowing two runs and five hits in three innings. Right-hander Marc Gwyn provided stability by contributing two innings of relief.

Giants on the mound: Matt Cain lasted 2 2/3 innings and allowed three runs on four hits before he exhausted his pitch limit. Brad Hennessey allowed four hits and walked two but allowed only one run in 2 1/3 innings.

Cactus League records: Angels, 4-2; Giants, 4-2.

Up next: The Angels entertain San Diego on Wednesday, with right-hander Hector Carrasco opposing Padres right-hander Clay Hensley. The Giants' busy Wednesday includes split-squad games against Seattle in Peoria and against Milwaukee in Phoenix. Matt Morris will oppose Mariners ace Felix Hernandez while Tim Lincecum makes his Cactus League debut against Milwaukee's Dave Bush.
