Elmer Dessens to the Royals

The Royals signed free agent hurler Elmer Dessens to a two-year deal on Thursday, the Associated Press reported.

Dessens posted a 3.38 ERA over his seven starts with the Dodgers in 2005, but he spent most of his time working out of the bullpen. Depending on who else the Royals sign this offseason, Elmer might have a shot at earning a full-time rotation gig in 2006.
