Thread: Beckett to Boston

    Braves Beckett to Boston

ESPN's Peter Gammons is reporting that the Red Sox will acquire Josh Beckett and Mike Lowell from the Marlins for Hanley Ramirez, Anibal Sanchez and a player to be named.
If only Beckett could be counted on to throw 200 innings, it might be worth it for the Red Sox. As is, with Lowell's salary included and two of the 50-best prospects in baseball being surrendered, it's probably too much to pay. The Red Sox should try to spin Lowell on to another team, though they'll have to eat maybe half of the $18 million he's owed over the next two years. The Twins are believed to be interested.

I think Lowell would welcome a nice change of view, and could be a nice #6 hitter for the red sux.

He may have accidentally checked the braves icon, or failed to uncheck it because he generally puts an icon pertaining to a team involved. Or he's THAT lazy.

Yeah, my bad. It was a reflex.

I would love to see Beckett as a Brave though.

This gives them room to dump both Wells and Clement.

I'd love to see Wells go to San Diego (where he wants to go, not because I don't think he's effective, I do think he's a good pitcher) and bring back Roberts or (please please please) Otsuka, and then use a rotation of Schill-Beckett-Clement-Wake-Arroyo/Papelbon/Miller/Whioever.

I still don't like the trade that much...but I can live with it, and Josh Beckett will still be the best thing on this staff who isn't over 35.

Then out of fairness to the others you will be Slagathor.

Can't go wrong with having two world series MVPs on your staff.

Red Sox gave up a dude named Hannibal?

Bo-Sox could really use a good, young SP. I like that trade.

The Red Sox have shown that they are not high on Hanley's future.

    Good for them.

Two years and $18.5 million left, someone can take it. If they are going to overpay for Burnett, why not Clement? Matt was having a great year til he got crushed in the head by a line drive.

Dude, no one is going to take Clement.
