Nationals Padres acquire Vinny C. from Washington for Brian Lawrence

Padres acquired third baseman Vinny Castilla from the Nationals for RHP Brian Lawrence and cash.
And this is why the Red Sox shouldn't be unhappy at all about missing out on Kevin Towers. Lawrence could have rebounded and reemerged as a solid starter next year. Castilla, on the other hand, is likely to be a detriment as the Padres tries to defend their NL West title. The 38-year-old remains a fine defensive third baseman, but he hit just .253/.319/.403 in 494 AB last season and Petco Park will hurt him just as much as RFK Stadium did. Why the Padres felt the need to make this trade on Nov. 3 when there could have been many more possibilities later is beyond

Towers just did ole Leather Pants a favor by taking one of the dumb FA contracts. I said last year he wasnt worth it away from Coors... and he still isnt.

And Vinny did so well at the start of the season.

Who could have predicted that he'd suck?

The trade perspective from the Nationals standpoint is a great one. You can never really have enough pitching.

Castilla? Couldn't SD have gotten more in exchange for Lawrence.

If anything could garner lower ratings than the World Series, well, this trade just accomplished that.

Sadly no. Lawrence had an awful year, which followed a year that was already showing decline. He still has the ability to rebound, which is why I do not like this trade at all, but I doubt they could've gotten better for him.

I just wish they wouldn't have made the trade.

The trade is good. And I am suprised none of you intellegent people see it.

The Padres have Alderson now and are becoming the next OAkland A's

This year we have 5 Class A free Agents leaving meaning we will be getting a Crapload of 1st round draft picks.

Trading B.Law for Vinny fills the stopgap for a year at 3B well we work on Youth development there. B.Law has a multi year deal well Vinny a one year. and by letting him walk next year we will again get 2 draft picks as believe it or not at 3B vinny is Class A FA.

makes a bit more since now doesn't it.

    Padres in 2007 and Beyond!
