Red Sox claimed RHP Luis Mendoza off waivers from the Padres and assigned him to Single-A Wilmington.
Excellent. It's been a long time since we've had a good waiver wire war. Mendoza was Red Sox property before being claimed by the Padres last month. The Padres put him back on waivers as a result of last weekend's roster moves. It wouldn't be a surprise to see him on waivers again if the Red Sox acquire a couple of players at the deadline.

They agreed to 3 year deals with all of them, with Boyd getting $2 mil per year, Burkett 4, and Cone makes 6.5 mil. Cone is scheduled to make the start Friday, followed by Burkett on Sunday.
