Nevin for Ponson is a Done Deal!!!

The quickest website to state this is right here. (EXCEPT ESPN)!!!

We have this story before Orioles, Padres, any Forum website, MLB, NEWSPAPER SITES, and SI.com!!!

    July 23, 2005 1:36 P.M. -- Peter Gammons

Orioles SP Sindy Ponson traded to the Padres for 1B/3B Phil Nevin.

The Baltimore Orioles on Saturday traded right-handed pitcher Sidney Ponson to San Diego for first baseman Phil Nevin, ESPN's Peter Gammons reports.

With Ponson moving to the Padres, the Orioles deal to acquire Florida Marlins right-hander A.J. Burnett has been shelved.

A three-way deal with the Orioles and Texas Rangers, which would have sent Burnett to Baltimore, was "killed" by the Orioles this weekend, according to a baseball man familiar with the deal, ESPN.com's Jayson Stark reported. So the Marlins are believed to have broken off talks with Baltimore, at least for now, and are back to focusing on offers by the Chicago White Sox, Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays.

Lowell, who is batting a disappointing .230 with just four homers and 39 RBI, is owed about $21 million through 2007.

Ponson was moved to San Diego once he refused a trade to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays for left-handed reliever Trever Miller.

Nice1 Now the marlins can't do what they were hoping to do moving Lowell and Burnett for Ponson. This is a good deal for the Orioles too, they add another real solid bat.

Looks like NEvin intends to invoke his limited no-trade clause; he's in the lineup for today's game.

Ponscum has one of the worst contracts in baseball. Chan Ho Park all over again. To think they were doing themselves good when they traded him for a guy who may never pitch again(Ainsworth) and someone they cut (Damian Moss).

Nevin has the right to veto this deal, so for it to pass, it's up to his arse.

Both players suck and have bad contracts.

If I was Nevin, I'd go to Baltimore. He'd be leaving a grand canyon for a crack in the side walk, might revive his.. career.

if he doesnt waive his NTC, they should cut his ass. since he isnt really doing much for them.

really, does nevin really care about winning?

Considering they seem to be SO close to trading him every season for the last 3-4 seasons, I don't think he should want to try and help them. Although he keeps vetoing the deals.. .......he's on drugs. The mind altering kind.

They ought to let the DBacks win the division. Going from very embarrassing to very defeated in round one of the playoffs. Truly a book worthy turnaround.

Yeah, word is Nevin will lose his starting job if he invokes his no trade, but he wants to talk to the Orioles first, to figure out his role before going there.

His pop would be nice to see in Baltimore, and Ponson would really benefit from a pitcher's park.
