Thumbs Down Nats really considering trading Storen?

The report from Rosenthal is that the Nationals may offer for Drew Storen for Denard Span...

Why? Why break up Clippard-Storen at the end of games? You have the 8th and 9th nailed down by a pair of young guns. You don't need yet another outfielder. I know Span's a solid player and a nice spark plug, but hasn't really been close to 2009.

Storen is also under control until 2016.

Relievers are also some of the most volatile assets there is. So many will have 1-2 good seasons and then flame out. If you can get an everyday guy and the pitcher isn't Mariano Rivera you'll probably be better off.

I disagree. Maybe if it was Storen for something remarkable, it would be different, but Span hasn't been for years. He's not a power hitter, he doesn't overwhelm you with steals or batting average. He's a solid player. You can go for solid players any time. They pop out of the wood works all the time (i.e. Michael Morse).

Storen on the other hand has shown nothing but consistency since his early call to the bigs. You're not better off without a closer like that. Just look at the number of blown saves the Twins have gone through. They might be leading the division if that had any consistency.

Nats are smart not to give up Storen unless it is for someone the Nats can build around. Span is definitely not that guy. Nats need to keep a good core much like the Yankees did in the mid to late 90's. Strasburg, Storen, Harper and Zimmerman are going to be fun to watch for years to come.

Span is a starting CF. Storen is a reliever. Deal him.

This reminds ms of the Nyjer Morgan deal they did trying to get the CF for a stud reliever (Hanrahan).

You'd think the Nats would learn from their mistakes

Holding out hope neither Clippard or Storen are dealt for Bob the Builder, just cause he plays the outfield.

So was Carlos Gomez before he got hurt. And Nate McClouth before he got hurt. Having a kid ruined your brain.

Davey Johnson on Clippard: "Tyler ain't goin nowhere or I'm goin with him." Doesn't believe Storen will be traded but can't say for sure.
    Well said.
