re: Carlos Beltran to San Fran

    More,
The San Francisco Giants so far have been unable to complete a deal to add an impact bat. (Sorry, Jeff Keppinger from the Astros doesn't count).
The big fish in the pond remains Carlos Beltran, and the Giants openly flirted with the Mets outfielder when the teams played a series by the bay just before the All-Star break.
The Giants are still in pursuit, and a report in Friday's New York Daily News says San Francisco is willing to assume most or all of the $6 million left on Beltran's deal. The roadblock is the Giants' unwillingness to part with a high-end prospect in exchange for a two-month rental.
A report in the New York Post earlier this month listed pitcher Zach Wheeler, the sixth overall pick in the 2009 draft, as being part of the discussion. The Mets would seemingly make that deal in a heartbeat, but Giants GM Brian Sabean may think otherwise.

Wheeler is a top 50 prospect now and that is just too much for a rental. Wheeler for Pence, yes but not for Beltran.

I can see both sides of the argument
Con-The price was too high to aquire him I think, I mean for a rental player for 3 months who's in his 30's for a top 50 prospect.

Pro- Giants needed a big bat in the lineup, the offense has been pathetic so that's where it's going to help. Also Giants are loaded with young starting pitching(Lincecum-Cain-Bumgardner) those guys are the core of our pitching staff, and plus Lincecum and Cain are just about to begin their prime and Bumgardner is just 21. So based on that Giants can afford to trade away a top 50 prospect.

I think it's safe to say those two have already reached their peak. With Cain, you can expect an ERA of around 3.00 every year, and while Lincecum will remain in his prime for years to come, his 2.48 ERA season will end up being his career best.

According to you players can't get better, if they do it's because of steroids.

Hey Giantsfanatic, why don't you read the quote in my signature, pal.

Good trade for the Giants. As has been said, pitching is their strength - giving Wheeler up for a big bat in a lineup devoid of bats is a good deal, especially if you're the reigning champs and you're looking to repeat.

If Lincecum took steroids, he'd balloon into the white version of the Panda. His hair would even grow its own giant head.

Re: Carlos Beltran to San Fran

Of all the fucking days for Comcast's internet to be out, it had to be the day the Giants got Beltran. While I'm not happy that the Giants have to give up Wheeler for a two month rental, I do like having Beltran as a Giant. Beltran is a game changer and should dramatically help this lineup. He's the best hitter the Giants have had since Bonds and hopefully he plays where Bonds played. I heard a lot of talk last night during the game that he was going to play RF and Nate move to LF and I think that's a mistake! Nate plays a great RF in one of the hardest RF to play in all of baseball. The Giants are getting $4 million along with Beltran which helps understand why they gave up the top pitching prospect. An overpay but I guess that's what it takes to get the best bat out there. Beltran and Keppinger are good pickups for Sabean so I am impressed he got this done and the best part about it is Beltran CHOSE the Giants. I like that and happy to see him hitting cleanup.

    8. Whiteside

That lineup looks a lot better! Bill Hall was DFA'd to make room.
