American League Victor Martinez to Boston

According to multiple sources, Victor Martinez is on his way to Boston in return for Justin Masterson and Nick Hagadone...not confirmed yet, but everyone online is reporting it as complete, pending physicals.

Cheater. I've been hearing about it for about 20 minutes and nobody was posting it.

No Buchholz or Bard in the deal according to MLBTradeRumors...Will Carroll is saying on Twitter that Buchholz IS in the deal as of 20 minutes or so ago.

Re: Victor Martinez traded to Boston

Joe Demayo of NY Baseball Digest believes the Mets will acquire 1B Adam LaRoche from the Red Sox, assuming Boston completes their deal for C Victor Martinez from the Indians.
No word on what the Mets would give up...

Not sure I'm a fan of this move. Daniel Murphy is heating up, and the team didn't want him in LF....Delgado only plays 1B....LaRoche....umm, I'm just not sold on giving up anything substantial for a guy who's a FA after the season and only marginally better than current options.

This is an excellent job by Theo Epstein to get a top bat for none of their huge name prospects. However, after all this talk, as a Yankee fan I'm glad they got Victor Martinez rather than Adrian Gonzalez. That would be lethal.

I dunno, Martinez plays C or 1B, and is a switch hitter. Either one is a huge improvement for the Sox...

It's a huge improvement, sure, but it's no Adrian Gonzalez. He's a beast with the bat.

Difference is Gonzalez would basically be an improvement over a league average(or better) hitter(whoever they had at 1B before this trade). Martinez is basically an improvement over the no hitter catching Jason Varitek....bigger margin of improvement.

They won't take Tek out of the lineup. You know how the Red Sox are.

Yeah, but Martinez could play SOME time behind the plate. That'd be a large improvement.

You're right, the point is that both players are EXCELLENT...

Any bobblehead collectors? Tomorrow night is still Victor Martinez bobblehead night in Cleveland, according to MLB.com's Anthony Castrovince.
