the PTBNL is 1 of 2 pitchers. Supposedly, 1 has MLB service time. My guess is the 1 with service is Sean Gallagher or Dana Eveland as both seem to have fallen out of favor. Gallagher is on the DL right now so that might be why he has to be a PTBNL.

apparently, Beane has had his eye on Hairston since 2007. he's under control through 2011, too. good deal by the A's.

For a guy with a 90-94 mph fastball, Webb sure gives up a lot of hits.

little to no movement I suppose. it doesn't matter how fast you throw; if it's straight, then hitters will eventually catch up.

Will he start most of the time, PA? Hairston that is. I have him in fantasy.

I'm not sure. I haven't seen a corresponding roster move announced yet to make room for him. It seemed like they might send Buck down and Hairston would start. I thought he was supposed to be in Boston for tonight's game. They did just put Braden on the bereavement list, but they called up Eveland.

They do have an immediately replacement for Holliday if they do trade him this season. Seems like a weird deal for San Diego if Hairston wasn't really someone hogging up cap space.

If I had to guess, they wanted to get what they can for him while he's somewhat hot, and maybe they want to give more play time to Kyle Blanks.

I'm not sure if it makes sense myself, I'm just guessing that that's the mindset.

So the Padres traded their only hitter worth a shit aside from Gonzo who also happens to own the Giants and then they get no-hit by Jonathan ****ing Sanchez, the number 5 starter for the Giants. That's weak.

Scott Hairston is a fourth outfielder on most rosters.

    Big deal.

It's cool that they got anything for him while he was semi-hot.

Re: Padres ship Scott Hairston to the A's

Oh, so now Scott Hairston is "soon to be washed up" only two years after being a guy who can flat out hit and should have been a starter all along. How convenient.

Re: Padres ship Scott Hairston to the A's

    I don't believe I said he's washed up.

I also don't believe I said he should have been the starter all along.

And, even if I did say the latter, stating he should be the starter on a crummy Padres outfield with little to nothing to choose from says nothing about my claim that he's a 4th OFer on most rosters. It just says that he's one of the 3 best on the Padres.

Furthermore, what's the big deal anyways? Am I supposed to be upset because this trade might lead to 105 losses instead of 101?

Re: Padres ship Scott Hairston to the A's

Hairston goes from being a guy who ought to be a starting outfielder because he can flat out hit given enough at-bats to a guy who will prove himself to be a 4th outfielder given enough at-bats. I don't mean to put words in the mouths of you revisionists, and "soon to be washed up" is a bit harsh, but I don't believe I'm wrong about the change in opinion of Hairston just because he got traded.

Re: Padres ship Scott Hairston to the A's

Of course you don't mean to put words in peoples' mouths, but that isn't going to stop you from putting words in people's mouths like you always do.

Show me where I once said Hairston is a guy who can flat out hit if given enough at bats.

Wait. I think I know what you're doing here. You're using your usual technique of taking the words of one fan of a team and assuming all fans of that same team carry the same opinion.
