    Royals Royals Extend Greinke

Royals sign Zack Greinke to a four-year contract through 2012 | royals.com: Official Info

4 year deal buys out 2 arby years and 2 FA years, this really shows the Royals commitment to winning under Moore the right way. Could really be a stepping stone for a team used to be stepped on

Greinke, to me at least, has always been a bright spot for the Royals, but could never really get over that threshold of playing to the potential i think he has. who knows if it's too late for that or not, but this is a good start if they plan on going anywhere

Royals used the Tigers as a stepping stone last year as they climbed one spot in the division while the Tigers finished last. With the Royals spending and Trey Hillman managing this team, good things will happen. Well let me rephrase that. If the Royals spend wisely, good things will happen. Greinke's signing is an example of the Royals spending wisely. The Farnsworth deal shows them spending money poorly.

This is a good deal for KC, if they keep locking up young stars, and stop signing overpaid, overrated, aging ex-stars, they could very well be winning in a few years time.

Hopefully he keeps his head on a stick, and builds off last year.

It would help the Royals if Brian Bannister proves that his sophomore slump, and not his rookie year, was a fluke. And sure, the Royals have nowhere to go but up if they spend wisely and stockpile on young core players, but the problem is that the Indians are way ahead of them on the curve.

I've always liked Greinke. He has very good stuff. Some are saying that he is at best a middle of the rotation guy, but I think he's got the stuff to be a #1 or 2 guy. This deal should give him the security he needs to relax on the mound and throw strikes.

Indians will most likely win the Central in '09 but doesn;t mean the Royals can;t get closer. I think Bannister will be fine and pitch more like his '07 season.
