Rumor Peavy deal almost complete? 4 TEAMS???

Peavy deal hinges only on Marquis move - MLB - Yahoo! Sports

LAS VEGAS – The lone holdup in a deal sending San Diego Padres ace Jake Peavy to the Chicago Cubs is the team’s ability to trade starting pitcher Jason Marquis, a source close to the situation said Tuesday night.
The Cubs are trying to offload Marquis and his $9.875 million salary to make room for Peavy’s four-year, $63 million contract, plus a $22 million option in 2013 that would likely need to be exercised for him to drop his no-trade clause.
The potential trade, a complicated affair involving a third and perhaps fourth team, would send a handful of prospects back to the rebuilding Padres and ship Cubs utilityman Mark DeRosa to the Phillies. Baltimore has also been involved in the discussions. Whether Marquis would go to Philadelphia, Baltimore, San Diego or, perhaps, another team was unclear.
    Talk about complicated.....

We'll probably have to wait and see some more, but if this is true, this is pretty ridiculous. The Cubs could potentially have a top 3 in their rotation of Peavy, Harden, and Zambrano. WOW. Just.....wow. Best top 3 in baseball, no doubt.

If Marquis goes to San Diego I'd be pretty pissed.

Why ship Jake's salary and take someone else's salary who isn't half as good?

Dump Marquis on someone else and give us all your prospects or keep Peavy in San Diego.

No, they're saying they need to move Marquis somewhere else first. I know he was linked to the Mets, but we didn't wanna give Heilman. If they wanna take like a mid level prospect or 2 for Marquis, that might work.....

Yes, it said that, but then it also said

Whether Marquis would go to Philadelphia, Baltimore, San Diego or, perhaps, another team was unclear.
All I'm saying is, if it's San Diego I won't be happy.

Sean Marshall, Ronny Cedeno, and Kevin Hart = Craig Johnson, Roman Vopat, and Patrice Tardiff

Oh, it's Jason Marquis instead of Sean Marshall? Then, in that case:
Craig Johnson, Roman Vopat, and Patrice Tardiff > Jason Marquis, Ronny Cedeno, and Kevin Hart.

You forgot Dempster and Lilly. That would be like the '71 Orioles.

And they'd still find a way to choke in the playoffs.

    True.

Jake will probably break another limb or rib right before playoff time or something and pitch through it.

Re: Peavy deal almost complete? 4 TEAMS???

Aaaaaaaaaanddd we bring ANOTHER team into the mix......
    http://blogs2.startribune.com/blogs/...y-sweepstakes/

Two persons with knowledge of negotiations said the Twins and Cubs talked yesterday about a deal for infielder Mark DeRosa - a potential move that would get the Twins involved in the most talked-about trade of the offseason.

The Cubs have been looking for teams to bring into the Jake Peavy deal because they don’t have enough pitching to send the Padres in return for the 2007 Cy Young Award winner. The Twins have young pitching. The question: Who are the Twins be willing to give up for DeRosa, who’s free agent after the season and is expected to test the market then.

Indications are that the Cubs will present the Twins a list of pitchers they would want in the deal - a list that likely would be influenced by the Padres.

DeRosa, who turns 34 in February, will make $5.5 million next season. He batted .285 last season with career highs of 21 homers and 87 RBI.
    But then this....
Hot Stove Blog: Cubs: DeRosa is staying put

The Twins are reportedly trying to become the third team in the Padres-Cubs talks regarding Jake Peavy, and have come up with a package of young players in hopes of luring Mark DeRosa from Chicago. But a Cubs source said Wednesday the versatile DeRosa is staying put and not going to be dealt.
The Cubs, Philies and Padres are still talking about a potential deal, but there is no timetable. There also is no pressure on the Cubs to get something done.
