    Peavy Wants Lofton

    http://www3.signonsandiego.com/news/...geless-lofton/
Jake Peavy's next start is Sunday, but the Padres' ace made an unscheduled pitch on behalf of Kenny Lofton yesterday.

"I like Kenny," Peavy said of the unemployed outfielder. "I think he'd bring a dimension to this ballclub that we don't have any of -- we have no team speed.

"It's not my call. It's not my decision. But he'd definitely be a spark."
Why no one picked him up after hitting .296 with a .367 OBP and 23 steals is beyond me. I suggested this in the offseason and Peavy agrees. Lofton would help the Padres struggling offense and keep Headley in AAA to get more seasoning since he has been an OFer for only two months. Hopefully Towers is listening.

He would fill the leadoff role and the Padres could move GIles down in the lineup. I think this would be an excellent move for the Padres

Agreed. Right now the Padres could use all the offensive help they can get. Lofton would be a good choice and would fit their needs nicely.

Kenny Lofton's no All-Star, but he's gotta be better than the shit they throw out there every night.
I did a lot of good things as a sim league GM.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

So now is the time that former MVP candidate Jim Edmonds is considered "shit."

It's sheer hearsay, and even if true could be nothing, so take it for what it's worth, but some guy on a Padres message forum I post at said he saw Lofton in San Diego sometime in March at a local restaurant and he appeared to have a noticeable limp.

Lofton would be outhitting Dunn right now.

As for Lofton having a limp in March, anything could explain that. His foot could have been asleep.

He wouldnt clog the bases (to borrow a phrase from that overrated idiot Baker) like Dunn is right now. Although I would gladly trade Kenny Lofton for Corey Patterson at least Lofton can get on base more than once a series.

Lofton had a .367 OBP last year so yeah he would be plus he has more speed so he would actually use that OBP. Plus he would be hitting for a much better average!
