Royals to the NL, Brewers back to the AL?

Royals-Brewers Trade in the Works? « Big Apple Sports: All New York Sports. All The Time.

The Kansas City Star is reporting that a trade may be in the works between the Kansas City Royals and Milwaukee Brewers. However, this is not a standard swap of players. Rather, it is a change in leagues. While the Royals deny that there is any truth to this rumor, it is being widely speculated on the Internet that the Royals want to move to the National League while the Brewers want to return to the American League. The Royals almost moved to the NL back in 1997. At the time, MLB wanted to move an AL team to the NL, and gave the Royals the first option. After serious consideration, they declined, and the Milwaukee returned to their NL roots. (The Brewers were always in the AL until 1997, but Milwaukee used to be the home town of the Braves, an old-time NL franchise.) But now there is speculation that the Royals are again interested in moving, while the Brew Crew wants to come back to the AL.
www.kansascity.com | 02/20/2008 | Royals dismiss talk of switching leagues

It is a rumor that pops up every few years, and it is once again the buzz in many baseball forums on the Internet right now: That the Royals want to switch to the National League and the Brewers want to return to the American League.

The latest rumor may have started on an East Coast talk show.
The Royals, for now, are dismissing the talk as pure speculation.
“We haven’t heard a thing about that,” said Royals vice president of communications Mike Swanson. “I’ve talked to Dayton (Moore) and Dean (Taylor), and we were just floored by that (rumor).

“Dayton even kidded that if it’s true, someone better tell him soon because right now he’s putting together a team with a DH.”

I honestly don't know if that would happen, but it wouldn't be the first time a team switched leagues. It would be kind of cool to see happen though.

Why would the Brewers want to move from a division they could easily win to one they have no shot in?

Maybe they want to make Ryan Braun a full-time DH, because he can't even field LF.

This would be interesting. The Brewers are a very good offensive team, but not much defensively. They have several guys that would be very good DHs -- Bill Hall, Ryan Braun, Prince Fielder, Rickie Weeks but unfortunately they have to play defense (no offense to Prince Fielder, but he is not a smooth defender).
The Royals could be a .500+ team in the NL Central (again, no offense to the NL Central).

Not to mention, they would be moving into the AL Central most likley...where they would have to compete with the Indians, Tigers, and White Sox for the division (and once the Twins come back around, them too). Then for the Wild Card they have to compete with the Yankees/Red Sox, Athletics/Angels/Mariners, and whoever doesn't win the AL Central.

In the NL, their main competition in their division is the Cubs. The Pirates suck, the Reds suck. For the Wild card there is the Mets/Phillies/Braves, and the Dodgers/Diamondbacks/Rockies.

No offense to the NL, but if the Brew Crew want to make a playoff run every year, they are better off to stay in the NL.

All the talk of who each team would have to compete with is rather pointless.

There's no telling how the leagues will compare by the time the switch would actually be made.

I don't see this happening. It would be dumb for the Brewers to do this and there just isn't any good reason for it.

    Excuse me?

speak for your own damn team lol

The Reds do not suck, the teams the brewers have to contend with in the N.L. Central are

The Cardinals, Reds, and Astros and once in a blue moon the Cubs

Re: Royals to the NL, Brewers back to the AL?

Last year the NL Central sucked monkey balls and, therefore, everyone and their mother will continue to think they still do until proven otherwise.

But these same people missed the lesson 2005 through 2007 taught us, that one year doesn't dictate the next.

case in point: 2005 the NL West was probably the worst division in baseball.

However, in 2006 the division was pretty damn good and last year it was the best in the NL and better than the AL West as well.

Probably even better than the AL East when you take into consideration the drop off that occurs after the Yankees and Red Sox.

I forgot the Cardinals were in the Central.

Okay, so you throw the Cardinals into the mix. I still don't think the Reds are anywhere close to a playoff team right now. They'll be the reason someone doesn't make the playoffs, but it won't be because the Reds themselves made the playoffs.

And Mr. D, I did speak for my favorite NL team...I said the Pirates suck.
