Padres Dunn not a fit for San Diego?

The recent acquisitions of No. 5 hitter Michael Barrett and potential No. 3 hitter Milton Bradley doesn't preclude the Padres from acquiring another hitter, Padres CEO Sandy Alderson said, but Alderson isn't painting a golden picture. "There are very few big bats that are available," Alderson said. "There are even fewer big bats playing out there who can provide the kind of defense we need to make our pitching successful." In other words, Reds left fielder Adam Dunn might not be a good fit.

Sounds like they are not too interested in another big bat but would welcome an opportunity if afforded one. Knowing Krivsky, the Reds will not be shelling out Dunn for nothing. I see this as not being a fit whatsoever.

I don't get them not being too interested in a new bat out of that, just not Dunn due to his defense and a statement that there aren't many suitable options available for them to pursue.

Further in the article they were saying that Barrett may be the big bat they were looking for. Which is a scary thought in itself, but they may be content with the recent pickup of your new backstop.

I read that more as them stating that he could be it, and more of a consolation following the assessment that a "bigger" one might not be able to be had.

They've made similar statements regarding Milton Bradley.
