    Lofton Close To Signing

The Rangers are close to signing free agent Kenny Lofton, according to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal.
It seems Texas outbid the Cubs. With Lofton in the fold, the chances of Brad Wilkerson getting non-tendered would seem to be higher. The Cubs will now have to reconsider playing either Alfonso Soriano or Jacque Jones in center field.
A better option than Wilkerson even in his old age. He still steals the bases and is a good leadoff man.

Cubs still go after Steve Finley. The Brewers were showing interest in him. I think he would do a better job in Wrigley than Milwaukee. And he could bat 7th or 8th in the lineup, ands not leadoff like the Brewers want him too.

I have always been a fan of Lofton so I like the idea of him joining the Rangers. Assuming he gets a starting job, he would give the Rangers their first true leadoff hitter since Tom Goodwin.
Integrity can accommodate the inadvertent error and the honest difference of opinion; it cannot accommodate deceit or subordination of principle.

I enjoyed Lofton in his earlier days. He might have been the biggest threat on the base paths, and biggest disruption also! He created runs with his speed and could run down flyballs with ease. He is still a good player and he will be a nice, temporary addition to the Rangers. In that dog days of summer, he might be able to get a few more triples than doubles with his speed and extra help from the heat!
