Nady for Oliver Perez and Roberto Hernandez?

The Mets have made a move they will hope will boost their suddenly lackluster rotation, sending outfielder Xavier Nady to the Pirates for left-hander Oliver Perez and reliever Roberto Hernandez, sources have told SI.com.

    Hernandez is a nice pitcher.

Perez... is a nice addition. Could easily rebound and become nice.

Don't think I'd have given up Nady to do this since Perez has shown nothing encouraging for a few seasons.

I really would of loved the Reds to snag Perez for potential alone. Hernandez can still get that heat going, but at 41 with that high WHIP, he might regress with his numbers quite a bit. Nady is a pretty nice young player with some versatility. I think the Mets could of gotten more unless Perez is easily fixable (and so far it doesn't seem that way.)

I really haven't seen much of Perez as of late, but if he can be fixed, that does change the view of this deal for myself.

If Perez can get back to pitching like he did a couple of years ago then it seems to be a good deal for both sides. I didn't even know Hernandez still pitched, let alone still pitching well.

    ESPN is reporting this.

The Mets got ripped off on this one.

The reason why the Mets made this deal is because Duaner Sanchez separated his shoulder in an automobile accident yesterday. He will be out for a significant period of time. This is according to ESPN.

If Perez, at best, can get to be a 5.00 or so ERA pitcher, it will be a pretty even trade. But if he returns close to what he once was, it's an obvious steal for the Pirates considering Nady is no potential all-star. It still seems a bit odd for the Pirates to give up on Perez since he once looked to be so promising, maybe they know something we don't?

Omar Minaya adds two more latin players and dumps an American player. No shock here.

Milledge and Diaz can replace Nady without a hitch. Perez will now actually learn how to pitch after being around a bunch of blind mice in Pittsburgh.

the Mets are talking with San Diego about a deal in which they would trade Perez and right-hander Heath Bell to the Padres for setup man Scott Linebrink. The Padres, who acquired reliever Scott Williamson from the Cubs last week, could use Bell in their bullpen.

If Balsley could get him back to his San Diego/first year in Pittsburgh form i'd salivate at the mouth for that deal.

If Ollie continues to struggle....not so much.

The reliever has some good stats, though.

A trade involving our setup guy for a washed up SP and a long reliever is just crazy.

Great deal for the Pirates. Nady will get better and is better now than Burnitz and Wilson (now with the Yankees). Plus the Pirates get rid if the Perez headaches. Mets get much needed help now that Sanchez is out for the year.
