You have to have photoshop(Or fireworks or whatever). Check out the tutorials at http://www.good-tutorials.com/
It is a GREAT place for beginners. I wouldn't be as good as I am without them. Once you get good, you can add your own 'spin' on them, and make them look the way you want them.
