At about 12.5 mil per for the next three years, it certainly helps the Reds to know what Votto will cost them (especially if he has three more seasons like he just had.) I think it is also a good gesture to the fans, and to Votto, that they want to keep Joey in a Reds uniform and hopefully this will lead to an extension being tacked on if the Reds continue to win.

Not until they sign Mike Leake to a 10 year extension, with 500k incentives for every homerun he hits.

Good deal for both sides. Saves the Reds from having to go to arby each year, lets them know exactly what to budget Votto for. Allows Votto to get paid like he deserves for his service time and still lets him have a crack at free agency... if he chooses that path.

I would have been shocked if Votto went more than 3 years because he's much older than Bruce.
