    Free Agent Abreu?

I was just listening to Home Plate on XM and heard their updates. They said that Jocketty has had talks with Abreu's agent even though he is a left handed bat. They said that Jocketty is saying that Abreu may not be the right fit and is still asking for a bit too much money.

But this helps the optimism kick in for Reds fans again. I thought he was done altogether this offseason. Perhaps, he is still looking to see where the market is for these guys and has a few in mind that he would snag if the right price fell in his lap. Now, he just has to be on the phones a lot more than ever and keep his ear open so he can be the first to make the call on a free agent waiting for somewhere to sign.

Also, I wonder if this means the alleged talks with the Yankees fell through. Perhaps Jocketty sees no reason to trade away talent to get an outfielder when he sees the market going his way every day.

Abreu would be a huge acquisition for this ballclub.

    Re: Abreu?

Abreu would have fun in that ballpark and look good hitting in the three hole for the Reds. He hits for average, gets on base and even steals bases. Put him in LF instead of RF and it could work. Plus the Reds wouldn't have to sacrifice draft picks to get him.

    Interesting or perhaps just fodder?

    From Baseball Prospectus:

Bobby Abreu (6.2): His options keep shrinking, and it now looks like the Reds may become his new club, though they would prefer a right-handed hitting outfielder over a lefty swinger.

    Re: Abreu?

I wouldnt mind Abreu considering a couple limitations.

NO more than 1 year deal and Duhhhsty doesnt mind batting a bunch of Lefties together.

Oh wait... If Abreu gets signed who gets bumped down the lineup so Phillips can hit 4th and stink vs RHP and Edwin probably hits 6th as you cant put multiple lefties back to back.

Trying to read Duhhhsty's mind (yes its a scary place)

    Tavares CF (Sucks)
Hairston SS (Repeatable success? Probably not)
Abreu LF (Respect Dude! Actually cant overly complain that much)
Phillips 2b (Cant bat multiple Lefties together dude!)
    Bruce RF (Be a hitter!)
    Edwin 3b
Votto 1b (I hate walks dude)
Hernandez C (Respect dude, he speaks spanish so he's gotta catch!)

    If it were my lineup.
    1. Taveras
    2. Bruce
    3. Abreu
    4. Phillips
    5. Votto
    6. Encarnacion
    7. Hernandez
    8. Keppinger

Taveras is the best option at leadoff and has the most speed, I really like Bruce hitting second, Abreu would be the best hitter, Phillips has the most raw power and has speed too, Votto is an ideal #5 guy, Encarnacion belongs lower in the order, Hernandez can still hit and Keppinger needs to start over Hairston.
