Reds Jocketty Can't Let Him Go

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that the Reds "will at least explore signing left-hander Mark Mulder."
When he was running the Cardinals, current Reds general manager Walt Jocketty traded for and then re-signed Mulder. "I've got to see what the medical situation is," Jocketty said. "I obviously liked him."
Don't put the Reds through this Walt!!

I dont see a problem in "exploring" the idea.....giving him 10mill would be different.

giving him anything would be a mistake though. He is hurt, and nobody can seem to figure out why.

Yeah, but if he signs a MLC, then you're ok....or if you get insurance on his contract...

A nothing type of contract (less than 400k) with incentives that would require him to pitch with talent and not just keep a roster spot (ie not inning incentives) wouldn't kill me, although I'd prefer not to see any contract obviously. Frankly, Mulder seemed done last I saw of him and unless something has changed, I can't see him staying in bigs for much longer.

Sur, but how often does a big name pitcher (regardless of recent history Mulder has the name recognition) sign a mlc? Mulder seems happy to be a free agent right now. he said he is happy to be able to do his own thing and not be on a forced timetable by a team. Teams usually throw at least $1Mil at this type of project, and I don't see the point of it. It's a bigger waste of money than the Cards wasting money on Matt Clement. Nobody can even figure out whats wrong with Mulder.

He's not worth of wasting a roster spot.
