  • It's a shame he won't, at his age who knows how many ASG seasons he has left.

  • It would of been nice to see him in there considering past performances, but it's not a big issue.

  • I am glad he's not in it, his swing is too sweet to let him possibly alter his approach for this.

Thoughts about Griffey not participating in the Homerun Derby?

Today, both Bonds and Griffey told reporters that they would not participate in this year's derby on Monday night. Obviously the derby is not the most significant event and has lost it's luster over the years, but Griffey can put on a show and his fans obviously for that reason as well.

    What do you think?

I personally wanted to see Bonds and Griffey perform one last time together in the HR derby, but at this age I understand why they wont perform, but I do believe if Bonds and Griffey did not have previous injuries there chances of performing in the HR would have increased.

It's probably particularly rough on you guys considering where the ASG is being hosted this year.

I think it would be nice to see him. I mean you have to remember the days when he was competing in the HRD. It was definitely a site to see. But I also feel like it has altered some player's approach. Maybe just leaving him in the groove he is in right now will allow for him to keep up this great pace.

It wouldn't alter his approach, it never has.

When and how the Reds add to their five World Championships, nine pennants and nine division titles seems less important than the franchises' lineage, which traces a line back to the dawn of the professional game and their role as keeper of the historic flame they lit by birthing the Red Stockings in 1869.
