Red Sox Sox avoid arbitration, sign Youk to extension

Kevin Youkilis signed a 4-year, $40 million deal with the Red Sox. The deal includes an option for a 5th year.

Now the Sox have signed Pedroia and Youk to long term deals. Good job by them keeping around what is working.

Sources: Boston Red Sox, Kevin Youkilis agree to $40M deal - ESPN

Great deal for the Red Sox. Youkilis' skillset should continue to be a big asset for them. I think he'll continue to put numbers like his 2008 line over his contract.

Great move! Youkilis will help fill the void of Varitek as team leader if he happens to sign elsewhere. Youkilis should have won the MVP last year and is THE team MVP.

Red Sox signed first baseman-third baseman Kevin Youkilis to a four-year, $41.25 million contract with a club option for 2013.
Youkilis gets a $1 million signing bonus along with $6 million for this season, $10 million for 2010 and $12 million for both 2011 and 2012. The Red Sox hold a $14 million team option for 2013 that can be bought out for $1.25 million, giving them a chance to keep Youkilis through what would have been his first three seasons of free agency. He'll be 35 years old by the time Boston no longer controls his rights and the deal is certainly very reasonable from the Red Sox's point of view.
    Just a contract breakdown.
