    Red Sox The Marathon Man

Red Sox reliever Hideki Okajima will run in the Honolulu Marathon Sunday.
The Boston Globe was told by a team official that the Red Sox aren't too happy about it, fearing injury, and would have disallowed him had they found out earlier. Okajima posted a 2.61 ERA and a 60/23 K/BB ratio through 62 innings last season. This incident shouldn't affect much, so long as Okajima returns to Boston unscathed.
He best not hurt himself. As someone who is lazy, why the **** would he want to do this? He has money and a demanding job so what's the point?

Why not? He is in pretty good shape and enjoys running. I have no problem with this.

How can someone hurt themselves running a marathon? Especially in Hawaii.

Let's guess how much time he takes to complete it. I'll go with 3 hours and 14 minutes.

Marathons can grind your knees down pretty quickly, but at his age, it's not the Red Sox worry about long-term implications.

    3:07 for me

As a Sox fan, I don't mind it but he needs to be smart, if he feels something he needs to get out right away

People die running marathons. In fact, according to the story, the first guy ever to run a marathon died after completing it. So it's real easy. Like people said here, it can grind you knees, you can fall and get trampled, it can **** with your heart. Lots of things can go wrong.

I'd say overall this is not a smart move by Okajima. Then again i've always seen him as 80% robot anyways, so maybe it's not as bad for him

    Re: The Marathon Man

An update on this story: It actually took Okajima 6 hours to finish the race. The winner finished in 2 hours and 14 minutes. Damn. He sucks.
