Red Sox Sox To Add Kotsay?

ESPN.com reports that the Red Sox are close to a deal with the Braves for Mark Kotsay.
It sounds like a trade might have been agreed to. However, Boston is in Kotsay's limited no-trade clause and still needs to get him to accept a deal. Kotsay would probably get playing time over Coco Crisp while J.D. Drew is out if he accepts the deal. He'd stand to receive fewer at-bats when everyone is healthy. The Phillies are also believed to be interested in him. If the Braves move him, they'd likely play Brandon Jones in left field, with Gregor Blanco in center for now. They could call up Jordan Schafer next month to start.
Kotsay is batting .286 with a .338 OBP and still plays good defense. Boston could definitely use him while Drew is out. Kotsay still has a good arm and would be a much better option than Jason Lane. Braves get to dump the little they owe him and get someone in return. Just who hasn;t been reported yet. The Saux are not ****ing around!! Next thing you know they will snag a pitcher.

How many other players do you think have hit for the cycle and then been traded in the same year?

The Braves just got Kotsay not too long ago and now they want to deal him? I hope they know what they are doing.

We'll take him. I'd much rather see him out there everyday than Coco. Plus he's not a great hitter, but he'd improve the Red Sox "black hole of outs" at the bottom of the order. (Varitek, Crisp and Lugo when he's playing)

    1) I hope I never see Lugo again, lowrie has earned the job

    2) Varitek actually had a good week last week...but he's still horrible

    3) Bailey has been playing well but kotsay would be a better option than coco

Kotsay would be nice for the Sox. He's still a pretty darn good defensive centerfielder, and he definitely adds a little bit of offense to the bottom of the batting order. I don't know why the Braves would trade him after less than a season in Atlanta...

    Re: Sox To Add Kotsay?

Boston's official website reports that the Red Sox have acquired Mark Kotsay from the Braves in exchange for minor league outfielder Luis Sumoza.
Kotsay should provide insurance for the Red Sox over the last month of the season, and will likely start until J.D. Drew returns. Sumoza has shown promise as an outfield prospect, and the 20-year-old was hitting .301 with 11 homers at Class A Lowell. Kotsay is expected to join the team prior to Wednesday's game with the Yankees
    There it is.

Sumoza looks like a damn good pickup for the Braves. He's only 19 and has 11 homers I think at A Ball. They say he's a good line drive hitter so he has a lot of room to grow in the power department. Haven';t found anything about his defense yet.

Kotsay's spine is about ready to file a divorce from him.

    1. I agree Lowrie has earned his spot.
    2. Yeah, maybe Varitek will get that average all the way up to a rather pathetic .235.
    3. Bailey has played well, but Kotsay will start ahead of him I expect.

He can't be that good if he passed through waivers? I saw him a couple weeks ago at the Futures at Fenway and he has a real uppercut that will have to be adjusted at the higher minor league levels for success

He can hit but he's a guy that could have a back injury taking a shit. Better hope Drew comes back, better playoff option obviously.
