    A New "Mayor" In Town

Peter Gammons of ESPN reports that the Red Sox have agreed to terms with first baseman Sean Casey on a one-year, $700,000 contract.

Casey must not have had many offers, because he has zero chance of getting significant playing time unless David Ortiz, Kevin Youkilis or Mike Lowell suffers a major injury. He'll serve as Boston's backup at first base and designated hitter, and give them a high-average bat off the bench.
Wow! Talk about a cut in salary!! He went from $8.5 mil in '06 to $4 mil in '07 to now $700k. The Mayor can still hit and this is a great move considering the cost and the talent. Red Sox are so deep on the bench and in the rotation it is ridiculous!!

Not a bad "plan B" for the the Sox is it?
Casey has dropped a bit over the past couple of years.

It's pretty much no risk at that price. It should make it so Lowell and Ortiz can rest a little more. Lowell could use more rest cause of his age, and Ortiz could use more rest because... Well, because he's a hog.
