Re: Kingdom and Hammer present the 2014 NBA Mock Draft

The Magic gm in his short tenure has stayed away from the risks. He picked Andrew Nicholson over Jared Sullinger (That didn't work so well), and Victor Oladipo over Nerlens Noel (Time will tell, but I consider that a good move). If it comes up that Exum isn't on the board, and it's between Joel Embiid, and Noah Vonleh, or Marcus Smart, I just can't get excited for the other two players. lol

I just think Kyle O'Quinn would start over Noah Vonleh, and Marcus Smart would be a solid player to finally replace Jameer Nelson about 6 years too late, but I just hate Smart's personality.

    50. The Phoenix Suns select CJ Fair, SF Syracuse

I realize he played PF mostly in college, but his body type dictates he's a small forward. I seem to have a type, because just about every 2nd rounder I've taken has been an athletic freak that needs to bulk up, and Fair is no different. I see no reason Fair can't become a D-Corner 3 type SF, with nice hops in the transition game. Fits a run-n-gun Suns system.

He actually played more of the 3 in his career, especially this past season. With frontcourts of Fab Melo/Rakeem Christmas, Christmas/DaJuan Coleman and Christmas/Jerami Grant at the 4 and 5, CJ played a lot of 3. His jumper -- when it's on -- is gorgeous, especially from the baseline, and him being a lefty often gave defenders problems. Agree with you that Phoenix would be a nice fit.

That one has Rafael Arujo written on it, size and not much else.

    51. Dallas selects SG Jordan McRae, from Tennessee

They're old. Only Blair, Crowder, and Wright were young 20 something's that consistently were in the rotation. With Ledo and Larkin not seeing much action and Dinwiddie drafted, it's hard to say what to pick for them so I'm giving them a lanky wing with a nice wing span, that has good range. It's entirely possible he can be a factor on both ends and separate himself from Crowder (lacking O) and Ledo (lacking a brain)

    52. The Philadelphia 76ers select LaQuinton Ross, SF/PF Ohio State

Holy shit, they're on the board again. I think the team we've drafted for them, is better than the team they ran on the court the last 10 games or so down the stretch last season. Work ethic and consistency are question marks for Ross, but his game seems suited for the NBA if that can be solved. If a coach can get through to him, and get him to give 100% on every play... which is tough, admittedly... at 6'7", 240 he would seem to have the perfect NBA body to play the 3 or the 4. Great pure offensive player.

    53. Minnesota selects PG DeAndre Kane, from Iowa State

Highly productive in college but is old. And I'm not sure if he has a position. But Minnesota needs to blow things up and odds are, aside from Love, Kevin Martin and JJ Barea will be gone. Rubio and Shved have shown little ability to score and that was an area of strength for Kane. He's also a good rebounder.

    54. The Philadelphia 76ers select Alec Brown, C Wisconsin-Green Bay

Admittedly, I just took the best Center on the board because I wanted to full out a full starting 5 for the Sixers just from this draft alone [Johnson at the 1, Young at the 2, Wiggins at the 3, Grant at the 4, Brown at the 5, with Powell and Ross off the bench]. But Brown has a lot of Spencer Hawes in him, a legit Center's size, with consistent range from beyond the arc. And his biggest flaw can be fixed with commitment... much like every other 2nd rounder I've taken. Get him in the gym, and bulk his ass up.

    55. Miami selects PG Aaron Craft, from Ohio State

Two words: Patrick Beverly. That is exactly what Craft can do backing up Norris Cole. Miami needs to add toughness, tenacity, and someone to just get under people's skins. Craft is heady and a winner and Miami needs to add immediate contributors if they plan to gut things for Melo. Just keep him away from Van Sleet and Ron Baker next year

    56. The Denver Nuggets select Deonte Burton, PG Nevada

Super athlete, had shitty teams around him constantly. Maybe playing with higher level talent can get him to become a better distributor. Once again, a lot of his flaws are in game planning and knowing the game, things that can be taught.
