Byrd was a top 40 pitcher last year, good pickup, especially at that price (at least with the way the market's going and the fact some pitchers are going to get 10+ mil per).

He's not exactly durable, but he's the type of pitcher I'd expect to be demanded more often. Even if he misses a sporadic start, you should get almost 200 IP or so from him of productive pitching, and Mazzone can only help

Then out of fairness to the others you will be Slagathor.

For the money he's going to get I'd much rather have him than Weaver, Morris, Washburn, Loazia, etc. I think he ends up getting a little more money, and I hope it is with Seattle.

Not a better pitcher out there for even near that price.

Not a bad offer for the price... but in no way would I ever say I would want him more than a Morris.... granted Morris will cost much more....

This could be a decent value signing....

The good thing is that Byrd wants to be in Baltimore , reunited for a 3rd time with Mazzone. He's decent, but in now way affects any balance of power, now if we land Konerko, that will take some of the sting out of losing Ryan, I think Chris Ray can step up and close next season, just whatever happens, if Jorge Julio is still pitching in Baltimore, I won't even bother to watch.

Julio best not go back into any closer role.. he has the "stuff".. he does not have the mindset for it.... I too believe Ray will be the closer... he will take his lumps, but he is possibly our closer for a long time and has the right stuff, and supposedly the right frame of mind....

Konerko... I won't get my hopes up... we would have to out-offer both Anaheim and the ChiSox... I doubt that happens... I think that one of those teams will offer 5 years @ 75MIL.. because he is the hot comodity.... and I don't see us making any 16 MIL per year offers
