Manager Bobby Cox is angry that Church's aggressive slide at the very end of the last Mets-Braves game is keeping Yunel Escobar out of the lineup tonight and possibly for a few more games with a badly bruised knee. Escobar said his knee was feeling "not good."
"The slide was extremely late," Cox said. "You have to slide before you get to the bag, not after you get even with it. I don't know if he got his stride messed up or what."
I don't know what Cox is talking about. I only saw the slide once, but from what I remember, it was a pretty legit slide. He did obviously slide at Escobar to try and break up whatever the play was, but that's normal. I think it was just a freak thing that they hit knee-to-head. But I definitely it wasn't meant to hurt anybody, from either side.
