Looks like Teixeira is a Brave

ESPN - Braves close to acquiring Teixeira from Rangers - MLB

The Atlanta Braves appear to be the winner for the right to acquire first baseman Mark Teixeira from the Texas Rangers.

A preliminary agreement has been reached between the teams for Atlanta to receive Teixeira and left-handed reliever Ron Mahay from Texas for catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia and three minor leaguers.

The deal will be finalized once players' medical records are reviewed. Major League Baseball's deadline to trade players without securing waivers is Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. ET.

Teixeira, a 27-year-old switch-hitting slugger, has won two Gold Gloves at first base. He is batting .297 this season with 13 home runs and 49 RBIs. Since breaking into the majors with Texas in 2003, Teixeira has had seasons of 26, 38, 43 and 33 home runs.

Your reactions? Do you like this rent-a-player deal? Do you think Teixeira will get this team where they need to be?

I didn't want to give up the prospects, but I can't be mad at this. Tex is an incredible player. You got to love when the GM tries to give his guys the best chance to win. I'm crossing my fingers another trade is in the works. But if not, that's cool. I think the Braves have enough to enter the playoffs with a roar.

Do you guys have enough pitching to take over the East and more importantly beat the Mets and Phillies out of contention?

It's official. It's a good deal for both teams. The Braves will get to address what they need right away to get back in the race. The Rangers aren't contending anymore. They need to rebuild this team a little bit. It'll be good for the their future, I guess.

I know that Salty looked great at times, not so good at other times. Does Texas plan on sending him to AAA or will they let him finish the season in the majors? I have to think if he was good enough to get at bats for the Atlanta Braves then he's good enough for Texas. But I dunno their situation that well.

I don't know a lot about Harrison, frankly. I know everyone involved in the Braves' were super excited about Elvis' development. I wonder if Texas plans to turn around and trade any of the players involved? Pitching has always been their problem.

I think it down right sucks. The Braves future is now in jeopardy. They better pretty to god that he hits over .300, hits more than 50 homers and well over 100+ RBIs. The offense is still one of the best before this trade, the pitching is the main problem not the offense.

I will be pissed of about this for a while.

The Braves have traded their top prospects time and time again (JD Drew - Adam Wainwright, Tim Hudson - Dan Meyer, Edgar Renteria - Andy Marte, Mark Teixeira - Salty, Elvis, Harrison) and have continued to have a strong farm system. So I don't really see how this trade puts the future in jeopardy.

Never heard of Dan Meyer. Andy marte is not even in the Majors right now is he? Salty, has proven himself already. I liked what I saw from Harrison during Spring Training. Still needs work but he should do just fine.

Salty hasn't proven himself the way Brian McCann has. Thats why he's still considered a prospect by most.

Dan Meyer, some Braves fans were pissed off when he was traded for Tim Hudson who people thought wasn't going to sign here. I don't know what happened with him though.
