INDIANS 8, BRAVES 2
at Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
Thursday, March 29

Indians at the plate: Trot Nixon and Casey Blake delivered two-run homers off highly-regarded right-handed reliever Rafael Soriano in the fifth inning. Blake also provided a two-run single in a three-run fourth inning that the Tribe constructed against Tim Hudson.

Braves at the plate: Atlanta didn't record its first hit until Yunel Escobar opened the bottom of the eighth with a single off Jason Davis. Chris Woodward followed with a double before Doug Clark's two-run single.

Indians on the mound: Fausto Carmona ended his exhibition season in impressive no-hit fashion. While keeping the Braves hitless over six innings, the right-hander registered five strikeouts and issued three walks.

Braves on the mound: Making his final exhibition season appearance, Hudson worked four innings, allowing two earned runs and three hits. Before issuing two consecutive walks with nobody out in the fourth inning, he'd surrendered just two singles. The four runs and five hits Soriano allowed in the fifth inning marred what had been a near-perfect spring. In his previous eight innings, he'd allowed one earned run and five hits.

Grapefruit League records: Indians 16-12; Braves 17-11-2.

Up next: The Braves will begin a two-game exhibition series against the Chicago White Sox at Turner Field on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. ET. The Braves will send Chuck James to the mound to face Mark Buehrle.

The Indians will conclude their Grapefruit League season on Friday, when they host the Blue Jays. Jake Westbrook will face Victor Zambrano in the contest that is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. ET.
